This year the College Congress was treated to a lunch time concert with a difference, by UCAN (Unique Creative Arts Network). The performers in the group were all children with a visual disability who have come through our clinics on many occasions.
The children played a large part in selecting the material for the skits and songs performed. The confidence and eagerness to excel was all too evident in their performance. The candid dialogue delivered with gusto was enough to encourage a reflection of our own dealings with children and young people with a visual disability.
The performances and the vocals were a professional display of the brilliant talent UCAN has to offer. The group received a standing ovation from those who attended the concert.
UCAN is a registered charity to help children with visual impairment develop and express themselves through the medium of art. Its founder Jane Latham has worked tirelessly in her efforts to secure a foundation for a network’s future initially in Wales and eventually throughout the United Kingdom.
On behalf of the college I take this opportunity to thank the group for the uninhibited display of raw talent at the college congress and wish the network’s members, volunteers and founder every success and growth in the coming years.
