The Community Trade Union invited UCAN to perform at a fringe event at Conference this year in Torquay.
Members of UCAN, alongside members of NLB, performed and presented materials and videos created to combat disability hate crime. Much more on this to follow!
As part of the Future Insight Project funded by the Big Lottery, the UCAN Team ran workshops in partnership with Guide Dogs at The Gwent Visual Impairment Service in Cwmbran, for young people and their parents. While the young people enjoyed confidence building drama activities, parents attended ‘Stepping Back’, a workshop delivered by Adrian Linney of Guide Dogs, for parents of transition aged children and young people with a visual impairment, to help them gain confidence and practical skills to support their
child’s preparation for the transition to living independently.
Milford Haven School hosted a weeklong series of workshops, which culminated in a performance at the Torch Theatre. Bernie Latham, Artistic Director of UCAN said ‘ We are so grateful for the support of the school and all the staff, in particular the wonderful Jenny Turner’. The performance, which was very well attended by family and friends, was a great success. A massive congratulations to all the young performers.
For the first time UCAN Team attended the Exhibition and Information Conference at Venue Cymru. The event, which was hosted by the North Wales Society for the Blind, was a very interesting day where we met lots of new people from the sight loss sector. As usual we couldn’t go anywhere without having some drama and music, so we also ran some taster workshops.
Our new friends from Scotland came to visit Cardiff and learnt all about UCAN Productions. We had a fantastic couple of days visiting Wales Millennium Centre, Chapter Arts Centre, as well as having great fun at UCAN drama workshops. Hope to be working with our new friends from Scotland again in the very near future.
